Acne Treatment for Various Skin Types: Why One Solution Might Be Good for Some but Not for Others
Have you ever wondered why some skin products work well on your friends but not on you? The answer lies in your skin type. Determining what kind of skin you have will go a long way towards keeping your skin clear and smooth.
Skin types can be normal, oily, dry, combination or sensitive. Normal is the most desired type. It is clear and is not usually prone to breakouts or pimples. Oily skin is the most prone to acne and other skin problems. Dry skin has the cracked and flaky appearance (particularly during the cold months) and combination is when parts of your skin, particularly the T zone (forehead and nose), are oily while the rest is either dry or normal. Sensitive skin is the one that gets easily irritated and reacts negatively to makeup and other harsh formulas.
Each of this skin type can suffer from acne. Even a woman with normal skin can suffer from pimples at one time or another, especially a few days before her monthly period. The best thing to do with pimples at this stage is to avoid picking on it. If you have normal skin, more than likely, the pimples will disappear after your period.
Oily skin is the type that is most prone to acne. The key to preventing skin breakouts if you have oily skin is to wash your face twice or thrice a day. Frequent washing will help wash away the excess oil that could clog your pores and cause zits. Use water-based facial cleansers and moisturizers instead of the creamy, lotion-types of cosmetics. Astringent is also advisable to lessen the oil on your skin.
Combination skin is arguably the most difficult type to maintain. Since combination skin often suffers from acne in the T zone, use products ideal for oily skin on that area, but use a milder solution on the cheeks and other parts of the face. Again, the key is to keep your face clean during the day and particularly at night. And please, don't pick on your spots, especially if you've been handling different things throughout the day.
People with sensitive skin, for the most part, must avoid using excessive cosmetics and must not use facial formulas without a visit to the dermatologist. Keep the skin clean using mild cleansers or soap; and if you can avoid it, do without make-up. Most of all, get your hands off your face. It's not only cosmetics that can easily cause it to breakout but dirt from your hands as well.
